"Uy, hatuy ka!"; "Dakpan!" ; " Tabla nata!"; "Sikop!"; "Flower lang ka ha?".
Those were just one of the phrases that every Filipino child had commented.
Some of the phrases in which friendship, sportsmanship, cleverness and happiness can be smelled.
Filipino games such as Patintero, Bato-lata, Dakup-dakop, Lupa langit, Japanese, Chinese Garter, Jumping Rope, Vicks, Biko, Takyan and others were already sculptured in the Filipinos especially in the Cebuano Heritage.
It is very nostalgic, seeing many of my neighbors (ages from 5 to 13) enjoying the game they play. I was once a lover of these hilarious but probably one of the happiest moments in my childhood.
It’s funny because it was during those times that I managed my first fight with a playmate and what’s funnier is, our sweaty and sort of muddy faces were accompanied by a sticky "sip-on" too! How I love those times!
Going back on my observations of the children of this generation especially in our place here in Maracas, Lahug, it’s amusing how the children still enjoyed the glories of these traditional Fiipino games. It’s like, these games never did flared out and it will be passed on and on and on, for real. I’m super-duper proud because I was also a part of this.
But, I have always thought: "Basig dili ka-afford ang ilang parents nga mupalit ug chess, scrabble or any games that’s why many of my neighbors find great joy in these inexpensive activities. And I think I’m right.
Honestly, I’m not too happy for all those children who grew up with NINTENDO, Wii, Xbox. I can actually say they haven’t really experienced the momentum of their Filipino childhood.
These children in our place, though YAGIT UG FACE, but their genuine smiles are very noticeable. These games have been with us and though, this modern world dominates us, I know our unique culture will never fade.
ANG MO-ANGAL IBTAN UG BUHOK! PILA KABUOK? Lima kabuok!
I bet some people out there have felt or perhaps experienced these. GOOD for US. :)
