"Hala sige, kuhaon ka's kapre diha sa Caimito run!" they would sometimes say.
But in our place here in Maracas, Lahug, it's quite different and funny. We are also surrounded by big,old trees and there have been a number of rumors on Kapres, White ladies and Duwendes residing in them. But I never actually experienced seeing one!
In our place, there's this old Coconut tree. I don't know since how long was it there but there's something peculiar about it.
Watching the tree, one can easily say that it CANNOT give out fruits. I've actually noticed it but during the onset of BER months, I noticed that the tree beside it which they call the Talisay Tree suddenly falls its leaves.
MURA NA SIYA'G NA-UPAW. There are no more leaves left. Only brown twigs of varied length.
The Coconut tree was still the same. There are no fruits visible but as the weeks went on, I noticed that the Talisay tree beside the Coconut which gave out its leaves were now fully-bloomed by its fresher, greener and healthier leaves!
Aside from that, I noticed that the Coconut tree was also showing up several fruits already!
It's strange because the trees are like giving way for each other. They're like best of friends or married couples perhaps who are giving each other a time to shine.
After the blooming of the Talisay tree with its new leaves, the Coconut tree then gave out delicious butongs.
It's really not that frightening but I guess it's really meaningful because even nature protects and loves itself and we should have done that too.
